January 2008 Newsletter # 16 Alberta’s Wholistic Newsletter by COCHRANE & AREA WHOLISTIC COMMUNITY Uniting Our Wholistic Practitioners and Providing Our Neighbors with Alternative Healthcare Choices Supplying a Network & Current Listing for Our Neighbors & Communities www.abwholisticdirectory.com to unsubscribe to newsletter Happy New Years to every one!!! For the last month or so, I have felt that it was already 2008. I am praying that this is a wonderful year for everyone and a year that we are ready to go forward to more positive changes. I am excited and wish you all the best for 2008. Feature Story Healing within a Community I was blessed with the most amazing day, provided by a community based event. Once a year “The Tapestry of Women” in Cochrane hosts a day of key speakers, displayers, breakfast and lunch, along with raffle draws and silent auction to help support our events. This event is for women of the community including Cochrane, Calgary, Morley and surrounding area. I know that every year we are blessed by wonderful speakers and participants. Yet this year was absolutely amazing and I keep reliving the sequences of the day. Our community members found the following speakers and presenters: Barbara Wardlaw and Peggy Rice: women in politics (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), Lea Bill: nurse and wholistic practitioner (Priddis), Patty Shortreed: Claiming Your Voice (Calgary), Rose Chiron: family facilitator, politics and wholistic practitioner (Olds) and Judy Atkinson: drumming circle facilitator and healer (Calgary.) These ladies are such beautiful people: they spoke of learning how to be comfortable walking in their own shoes, showing compassion, helping those around them while speaking their truth. This was a day of community and sharing, listening and learning, heart felt moments that brought healing and tears of joy. These wonderful ladies supported each other in a way that I have been trying to promote within the wholistic community. They showed us how we can be there for each other and not be scared to go forward and to achieve what our own hearts want. They live the power that is truly theirs to own and share. They are proud to walk in their shoes and speak their own truth. Hearts of gold, each one of them. When I looked into their eyes: I saw peace, love, wisdom and understanding. I hope that each day when I wake up I remember this day and work to achieve this same state of mind and wisdom. I know that within all of us there is a huge heart, and always room to grow. I thank all of these ladies for being who they are, for working together. Not once did I feel any negative moments or bad thoughts towards each other: as they all respected each other for their words and the work they did along their paths. I thank the wonderful members on our community for all the work, each and everyone did, as they helped this day be a dream that come true in my heart. We are so blessed to be growing into a community that is relearning how to truly work together again. This sense of Community and respect is something I love to see within the Wholistic and Alternative Practitioner Community. I have met some beautiful people, here in Alberta and hope to soon be able to travel and meet many more. A dream is to see practitioners work together; support each others training and ideas. Many times I see a sense of “Why do something else, why go to someone else.” I have heard some other discerning comments. I made the same mistake when I first got involved with Natural Healing. It is time for the practitioners to work together, regardless of the amount or type of training that we have had. We go to seminars together, classes together and need to respect each other for who we truly are. Each one of us, whether we are clients or practitioners need to feel comfortable walking in our own shoes. Many times I stop, to catch myself and remind myself that others have chosen their specific path of healing for a reason. They feel comfortable with their choice and need that support. When we stop to listen to why they have made their choice, we also are learning. When I have done presentations in libraries in Calgary and with other groups: I pointed out that there are many methods of healing. I let the audience know that healing is also found in other methods. There is Body Talk, CranioSacral therapy, aromatherapy, massage therapy: the list goes on. The client must find a practitioner and healing method that he or she is comfortable with. What may be comfortable for one person may not be the same for the next. Each form of healing is supported by intention and the sense of well being, each is just as powerful as the next. Showing the same support system our speakers shared at our event. Once again, thank you to all who have come together to share, learn and work as a community. Whether with a Tapestry, friend, neighbor, wholistic community member: practitioners and suppliers, your skills and education are greatly appreciated and will be remembered for many years to come. Kim Buckler Practitioner: always growing, learning to understand what compassion really is and what the meaning of community work is all about. I will learn, I will make mistakes, I am willing to grow. I welcome each person into my heart, no matter who you are or where you are, in life, time, experience or space. I welcome you to join this journey of love, peace and joy. Learn who you truly are and learn to love walking in your own shoes. And most important: receive your fellow practitioners and suppliers with open arms and heart. Practitioner Trades (Are you looking for a practitioner to trade with?) A Huge Thank You to….. Thank You to all the practitioners and health product suppliers that have submitted their articles as a contribution to our newsletters. Each month we are hearing of something new, and the information has been a blessing to share. This book is about how a mother realized how her child was getting sick from the use of harsh cleaning products such as bleach and ammonia. This child was ill every week by Tuesdays, routinely, after the house cleaning was done. Unless we are not sensitive to chemicals or aware of the effects, we don’t realize what can happen to those around us. When my daughters were small, I used mild dish soap on the lino floor, and never was bleach used in the house. Recently I used a bit of mild dish soap and some Tea Tree Oil on the wash cloth to clean the play area at work. Today I used the same method for cleaning the veggie drawers in the fridge. Safe and sanitized. (food alternatives) Many of us are finding that our bodies can not digest Glutton, and have to change our eating habits.
