Feature Story
                                                BodyTalk, Communicating with the Body

My client lay down on the table and reported that she felt suicidal at times. Medications had thus far failed to work effectively for her.  Over the course of several days following her initial session where emotions linked to lifetime events, she showed a distinct improvement and after a few additional sessions she reported feeling relieved of her depression and even optimistic.  We were not finished however as a few other issues came to the forefront relating to self-esteem, body image and a long-standing pain in her shoulders.  I continued to use BodyTalk and started to incorporate other modalities to enhance the benefit. As seen in this example, the body stores the changes made by the brain as a memory, each session building on the previous one. The analogy to the peeling of an onion or the surfacing of the unseen portion of the iceberg certainly applied here.  An athlete came in for work on his injuries and BodyTalk identified extensive grief over a lifetime.  The next time he returned, Quantum Touch helped the pain to recede prior to his next BodyTalk treatment.  In this situation, my client had chosen BodyTalk for pain relief as his first priority.  While BodyTalk chose to address grief prior to pain management, the system recommended Quantum Touch for pain management.

BodyTalk is a unique holistic healthcare organized structure which incorporates techniques and philosophies from many other systems including: the energy dynamics of Acupuncture, Osteopathy, Applied Kinesiology, the philosophy of Chiropractic, Hatha Yoga, Advaitic philosophy, concepts from the fields of Information Science, Informational Management,  Dynamic Systems and Quantum Physics to name a few.

BodyTalk falls within the Energy Medicine family along with all other modalities that I bring to my practice.  As a colleague pointed out, it is good to have several tools in your toolbox. In my case, these primarily involve Reiki, and Quantum Touch which is breathing into the hands along with visualizations to top up vibrational energy. Others include Colour/Sound Therapy, Brain Gym and emotional release techniques.  As a counsellor of twenty years, I also draw on techniques used within this area as needed. While some clients do request BodyTalk specifically, the beauty of this system is that it may go to other techniques, either those that I can implement, the client can or other practitioners. An example which comes to mind is a young woman who after having experienced an injury, returned to yoga as a part of her healing regimen.

The body addresses healing in a certain sequence, balancing the energetic processes in the best manner possible.  The practitioner acts as a facilitator between the program and the innate wisdom of the body to heal itself. Neuromuscular testing provides the yes and no answers required to proceed through the Body/Mind complex.  Answers are provided by the body which also addresses the sequencing or priorities to be addressed.  A core BodyTalk principle is that the brain reflects illness held in the body and hence the brain is a main focus for change, including the enhancement of left/right brain function. BodyTalk is recognized as a system which also addresses personal development and spirituality.

It allows the energy systems of the body to become synchronized for optimal function.  The stressors of life can result in a decline in functional health and well-being as a result of a disconnection of communication at the basic level of cells and atoms. Re-establishing energetic circuitry results in improved function at all levels, these being physical, emotional, mental, symbolic and spiritual in nature. This is a gentle and non-invasive modality which clients also report as providing a very comforting experience. On a humorous note, I work with massage therapists who sometimes refer clients to me.  Occasionally I have to inform my clients to remain fully- clothed.

Through a map of the Body/Mind Complex, the BodyTalk practitioner makes use of left-brain logical linear thinking. Communication formulas become more comprehensive as the practitioner engages right-brain intuitive lateral thinking to establish the most detailed link possible.  After locating and linking up different areas of the body requiring enhanced communication, the practitioner taps above the head, to register links in the brain.  Tapping over the heart stores the memory of these links.  Thus begins the process of enhanced communication leading to improved function. BodyTalk has certainly enhanced my practice and is gaining popularity many of my clients.

(herbs and more)
On a personal experience level, I know that many of our bodily discomforts are due to what is going in our lives, and each helps us to make life changes.  These changes are required, as what we were doing is no longer of service and we are done our growth or experience in that area.   Ex:  Just over a year ago, I started to have troubles with my left foot, and not knowing what it was, I still knew that I had to leave the job that I was in and to limit my time at another one.  So this article is about:

Bone Spurs:
There are many stories with what happens with bone spurs and how to deal with them.

According to Chinese Medicine, bone spurs occur because the kidneys are not working well as the bone marrow is not producing well and the kidney essence is low.  The foot becomes inflamed and in some cases damage occurs to the spine.  When the kidney is nourished properly, the inflammation will decrease and in some cases totally go away.  There is a formula called Chinese Spur Relief that has provided many good results.

Western medicine has not found a cure, and the doctors in many cases do not totally support the operation of removing the bone spur, as it can grow back.  Cortisone injections can be quit painfull, and they may not always  work.

According to Prescription for Nutritional Healing, there are ways to help out.  One must know the history of their body before trying anything new.  Betaine Hydrochloride (not recommended if one has ulcers), Calcium and Magnesium is very important.  With Calcium and Magnesium, the combination is important and the magnesium helps the body to absorb the calcium.  As we get older our bodies require more of calcium & magnesium to slow down any possibility of Osteosis.  Other recommendations are: Proteolytic Enzymes (chelate or aspartate), Bioflavoniods, MSM, Vitamin B Complex with extra Vitamin B6.

In the last year, I had an ex-ray done on my foot to confirm the bone spur.  Had a bio feed back test done recently and it confirmed that my spleen was been overworked, due to the kidneys and bladder not functioning fully.  I found a kidney / bladder herbal formula to help heal the organs.  I also find that when I am doing work that I do not enjoy, the foot hurts a lot.  This summer I was able to spend more time in the gardens as I found the peace within myself to know that just working in the garden was what I needed and any other concerns about the gardens were not mine to control.  When I do the Expos, on the hard cement floors, my foot is fine as I am doing the work I love.  Within I know that the bone spur is on the way out.  I have also recently heard a lot more positive stories on how they come and go and in some cases totally go away.

Please do look after your feet, and remember that with the spurs, if we do not look after them, we can have problems with our hips and spines, as we are not walking on our foot properly when the discomfort is there.  There are also herbal formulas such as Turmeric & Bromelain for inflammation.  When going to the health store, make sure you share what medications you may be taking, as some herbal formulas are not for you at this time.

                                      Gardening

- Now is the time is start planning any transplanting of your perennials and trees.  I will be changing the gardens around a bit in September and bring some of the fruit plants away from the fence for more room to grow.
- The end of September when the leaves are falling, place those extra leaves in your rose gardens for winter protection, or into your compost pile.  A friend just left hers in the gardens in the spring, and she found that there was less watering to be done the next summer.  The leaves were holding the moisture in.
- During the next full moon, I will be harvesting my sage for the last time this year, along with the other herbs.
- Also a good time to collect your seeds for the following year.  I found the spinach going to seed and will collect those in a week or two.   (Early spring spinach is my favorite.)  This is how I got some more Holly Hocks on the go, though it takes till the second year before the plant produces flowers.  Worth the wait.
- Mid fall is also a good time to trim back bushes, trees etc. and for planning the changes for the spring.
