                                    Opening the Doors…. Accepting changes & adapting to the new…

 

    In the last year at times I was getting frustrated with the progress in my goals and dreams.  Sometimes not remembering to live in the now.  Sometime in the fall, while going through my day book and chatting with my daughter, she noted all the things that I was getting down and the progress that I had made.  She saw more than I was willing to look at.  So I did a high light list for both of my businesses, noting all the changes.

 

    Here is a challenge for all of us, no matter where we are, take a moment or two, write down what you have achieved over the last 2 – 3 years to be where you are now. You can even go back farther.  Do you have a calendar to show the courses you took? Your personal growth?  Your outlook on life in general?  Do you have a highlights list of what you did over the months? Years?  The changes you made in your business or family life?

 

Example:

May of 2007    I learnt how to create web sites for my businesses and got them launched less than a month of making the decision. 

May of 2008    I had to redo the linking of the sites and the coding for better web exposure. 

May of 2009    After some feedback, I did some research and found a proper email form, spam free.

 

    Three Mays, three years, three changes – I can now see what my daughter was seeing.  And so much more that has occurred.

 

    This journey has been so rewarding and I learnt to live in the present and see that old ways are part of my growing, and also showed me how to go forward to incorporate new changes.  I enjoy the shifts and growth.  Though I was fighting within to go forward with the newsletter change (thank you Jeff so being so calm during my storm) I knew I had to open one more door. 

 

    Each time a friend or the universe provides you with a reminder, idea, or change in plan…. Open that door and allow the changes to come in.  Each small change that we accept and implement into our lives, may make the   growth may seem small at the time, but the end result is huge. Usually when I hear something two times I know I am being given a chance to add something new.  Or when anxiety kicks in, I know it’s my ego getting in my way of progress.

 

    Many times I have seen myself and others get upset or depressed because others are doing so well and we seem to be left behind.  Yet what form of thinking are we using?  How do we value ourselves?  Are we willing to work towards a higher goal?  Are we ready to pursue the work that we really want to do?  Are we scared to have money?  Are we scared of the responsibility of being successful?  Is there really any extra responsibility?  What thoughts are we really creating and how can we change them so we can make the changes to go forward and open those new doors. 

 

    The way we visualize our future and dreams is an important step to achieving so much more.  Learning that we can ask for our dreams to manifest and take the steps  towards what is for our highest good  Many times the universe will provide us with more than we were looking for, but that is because we are worthy of receiving and very capable of achieving the new adventures.  To knowing I am on the path of my heart and desires, to know that each day is part of that success, and to not limit my thinking with fears. 

 

    Each day is a big step in our own process: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  Be kind to your self and give yourself a huge pat on the back for each step you take.  ENJOY THE MOMENT TO ITS FULLEST.

Gardening in the City:  Urban Farmer:  www.urbanfarmer.ca  1-780-221-4800     Edmonton has the right idea.  This web site is wonderful for information and ideas.  There are also courses offered and more.   I live in a small town and probably have more edible fruits, herbs and vegetables growing in my yard than what you can find on most acreages.  Fun, delicious and you know where it grew.  I will be making frequent visits to the Urban Farmer.

Organic Produce:  As someone just reminded me, we need to be careful when we are paying for organic produce.  Stores and markets are suppose to have certification of organic produce before advertising them as being organic.  Do your research and don’t be afraid to ask for qualifications.

(how to keep your family allergy & toxin free)

The Toxic Twelve List       #1 - #6 for June 2009 and   # 7 – #12 for July 2009

The following are the worst of the worst, toxic, carcinogenic list commonly found in most skin and personal care products.  Each is directly linked to one or more of the above conditions.

    I went label hunting in my home and in red is what I found on some of the labels.  I still wonder about all the other ingredients that I saw, that looked just as nasty.  What about products with no labels?  Do you even dare to use them?

1. Benzoyl Peroxide:  frequently used in acne products, the MSDS states “Facilitates action of known carcinogens…  Possible tumor promoter.  May act as mutagen: produces DNA damage in human and other mammalian cells in some concentrations.  Also toxic by inhalation.  May be harmful if swallowed and in contact with skin.  Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.”

2. DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) & TEA (Triethanolamine): This foam booster is a skin/eye irritant and causes contact dermatitis.  Easily absorbed through skin to accumulate in body organs, even the brain.  Repeated use resulted in major increases of liver and kidney cancer. Found in Shea Butter.

3. Dioxin: Won’t appear on an ingredient list.  Often contained in antibacterial ingredients like triciosan, emulsifiers, PEG’s, and ethoxylated cleansers like Sodium Laureth Sulfate.  Dioxin causes cancer, reduced immunity, nervous system disorders, miscarriages and birth deformity.  It’s a hormone disrupting chemical with toxic effects measured in the parts per trillion – one drop in 300 Olympic size swimming pools.  Our bodies have no defense against its damage.  Most visible example was Yushchenko, the Ukrainian president, who suffered from dioxin poisoning and looked old overnight.

4. DMDM Hydantoin & Urea (Imidazolidinyl):  Just two of many preservatives that often release formaldehyde which may cause joint pain, cancer, skin reactions, allergies, depression, headaches, chest pains, ear infections, chronic fatigue, dizziness, and loss of sleep.  Exposure may irritate the respiratory system, trigger heart palpitations or asthma, and aggravate coughs and colds. 

5. FD&C Color & Pigments:  Synthetic colors from coal tar contain heavy metal salts that deposit toxins in the skin, causing skin sensitivity & irritation.  Absorption can cause depletion of oxygen and death.  Animal studies show almost all are carcinogenic.

6. Parabens: (Methyl, Butyl, Ethyl, Propyl): used as preservatives and aren’t always labeled “parabens”.  They’re used in deodorant and antiperspirants and have been found is breast cancer tumors.  Parabens, as xenoestrogens (hormone disruptors) may contribute to sterility in male mice and humans.  Estrogen like activity causes hormone imbalance in females and early puberty.  Found in: overnight tanning lotion, Shea Butter, Refreshing Toner, Mineral Therapy Body Lotion, Liquid hand soap, Anti Hair Frizz, Shower gel, Hair Dye, and Baby Lotion.

            Here is a challenge for many of us this summer.   Can we find the time to go to the local farmers markets or U pick gardens and buy your fresh produce?  Do you have a wee spot in your garden to grow herbs or some lettuce or Swiss chard?  How many of your children picked fresh veggies or fruit?

            Last summer out at the U-pick garden I had learnt that many were trying to buy within the 100 miles radius of their home.  One couple will find the gardens and fill their freezer for the winter.  They would not buy any produce over the winter time.  I am just running out of garden beans from last summer.   I do believe that our bodies do a lot better with the fresher food, less traveled and no preservatives.  I finally started buying organic fruit and have really noticed the difference in the texture of the fruit.  You don’t feel that waxy coat.  I always peal my cucumbers, because of the waxy coating and you know it’s not natural. 

            How many of those veggies and fruits will you eat raw during the summer?  Even steam instead of boil?

Monitor your body on how you feel after a day of fresh veggies, fruit and grains compared to a day of breads, cooked foods and preserved foods.   I find I feel more alert, more energy and my weight is more stable eating right.
