Cranio Sacral Therapy
Cranio Sacral Therapy was developed by John Upledger, based in the
United States. He discovered a gentle form of healing, working with
the pulse of the Cranio System to release blocks that have occurred
from physical and emotional stress and trauma.
Experiencing Cranio Sacral Therapy explained
with a medical view:
Cranial sacral therapy is administered through monitoring the rhythm
of the cerebrospinal fluid's flow through the system. Cranial
sacral therapy practitioners work to balance the life force energy
within the body. Because the movable skull, sacrum and coccyx are
attached to membranes encompassing the cerebrospinal fluid,
experienced clinicians can detect any motion. Light, hands-on
touch assists hydraulic forces (natural to the cranial sacral
system) to improve the body's internal atmosphere; thus,
strengthening its ability to heal itself. The brain sends messages
down the spinal column to the sacrum and to the tip of the coccyx.
Signals are then rerouted to all parts of the body through nerves
departing the spinal column.
By freeing tension from the spinal cord, the cerebral spinal flows
more freely. Cranial sacral therapy optimizes rhythm of the spinal
fluid and influences the whole body. It is relaxing, safe and
effective; and cranial sacral therapy may heal or alleviate numerous
conditions including migraines, chronic fatigue, motor coordination
impairments, stress and tension, TMJ, and orthopedic problems.
Experiencing Cranio Sacral Therapy explained
by the client:
Our bodies retain the memories of how our structure was created, we
are able to release the traumas and or adjustments that occur during
injuries and such. With CranioSacral Therapy, we can do this with a
light touch and allow the body to readjust without a lot of
discomfort.

Jerry White on the benefits of wearing CARDIOSTRIDE SHOES
[Jerry is a research physical therapist by trade and gives an
educated view of what can be gained from simply wearing these shoes
for a few hours a day.]
The weighted shoes are certainly one option for helping with weight
control, knee problems, fitness and a host of other benefits. I
will discuss them first. Secondly I want to let you know of some
of the interesting types of new applications with reflected infrared
light, magnetic bracing, and a non medical lubricant and
anti-inflammatory agent that could possibly give folks with knee
problems a lot more pain-free years out of their knees.
CardioStride shoes with weighted insoles.
As you know I was in Physical Therapy, sports medicine
practice, ran the Shriner's gait analysis and physical therapy
laboratory, and taught Biomechanics to Physical Therapy
students. The discovery of some of the following information has
been some of the most exciting of my career.
Using these shoes daily creates a resistive exercise, can
mechanically correct for gait anomalies and as you'll note, show
some very interesting side benefits.

Minerals (part 3 of 4)
Minerals, like vitamins, they function as coenzymes. Minerals work
with our bone structure, blood formation, our cardiovascular system
and our nerve function. We require certain levels of minerals to
maintain a proper balance, and the minerals and vitamins work
together. More study and research is being done each day to show
how the proper combinations work. What we will be doing is listing
the minerals and noting some of the veggies, fruit and other food
supplements that contain the minerals.
I am using a bottle of Prairie Naturals vitamins & minerals as a
sample of a recommended daily requirement. We need to remember that
each one of us leads a different life style and we all have
different requirements. There are some people that can not take the
vitamin and mineral supplements do to sensitivities.
Molybdenum:
Molybdenum is for the metabolism of our nitrogen that is required
for normal cell function. Molybdenum will also help to activate
some of the enzymes and we only need a little bit of it. Our liver,
kidneys and bones hold the mineral along with it helping with our
teeth. Gum disease, mouth disorders, cancer, and impotency for
older men can be linked to the lack of molybdenum. Those who eat a
lot of processed foods are susceptible to a deficiency. Too much of
this mineral can slow down the copper metabolism.
Food Sources:
Veggies:
beans, dark leafy veggies, peas
Other:
beef liver, cereal grains, legumes,
Requirements:
(Prairie Naturals Multi-Force: 51 mcg per day).
Phosphorus:
Phosphorus is necessary for our kidney function, heart rhythm, to
help clot the blood, along with bone and teeth formation.
Phosphorus will help our body change the food to energy and aids in
the utilization of vitamins. Effects of too little phosphorus are
trembling, weight changes, weakness, tiredness, anxiety and troubles
with breathing. We can consume too much of this mineral by eating
too much processed foods. Vitamin D works well with phosphorus and
can increase the strength of the mineral.
Food Sources:
Veggies:
asparagus, beans, corn, beets and beet greens, carrots, dill weed,
garlic, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, onions, parsley, parsnips, peas,
potatoes, pumpkin, radishes, romaine lettuce, rutabaga, spinach,
squash, swiss chard, turnips
Fruit:
dried fruit
Other:
bran, brewers yeast, dairy products, eggs, fish, kelp, legumes,
meat, nuts, poultry, pumpkin seeds, salmon, sesame seeds, sunflower
seeds, whole grains.
Herb Sources:
alfalfa, blue cohosh, cayenne, chickweed, dandelion, garlic, sorrel,
licorice, parsley, purslane, raspberry, rose hips, watercress,
yellow dock
Suggested Requirements:
(Prairie Naturals Multi-Force: 0 mcg per day).
Potassium:
Potassium works with the contractions of our muscles, nervous system
and our heart rhythm. Potassium and sodium work together with the
balance of water in our systems. Our cell membranes require the
proper chemical reactions to transmit electrical pulses and
potassium helps to regulate it which is essential for proper blood
pressure. This aids in the transfer of the required nutrients that
our cells need. Potassium works together with magnesium and as we
age, we may require more to obtain the right balance. When our body
is lacking in potassium we may experience chills, constipation,
diarrhea, edema, thirst, irregular heart beat, dry skin, high
cholesterol, insomnia, sore muscles, headaches and more.
Food Sources:
Veggies:
asparagus, avocados, beans, beets and beet
greens, cabbage, carrots, dill weed, garlic, kale, kohlrabi,
lettuce, lima beans, onions, parsley, parsnips, peas, potatoes,
pumpkin, radishes, romaine lettuce, rutabaga, spinach, squash, swiss
chard, turnips, yams
Fruit:
apricots, bananas, dates, dried fruit,
figs, raisins, strawberry
Other:
black strap molasses, brewers yeast, brown rice, dulse, fish, meat,
molasses, nuts, poultry, yeast, wheat
bran, whole grains, yogurt
Herb Sources:
alfalfa, blue cohosh, birch, borage, catnip, chamomile, coltsfoot,
comfrey, dandelion, fennel, hops, horsetail, Irish moss, kelp,
mistletoe, mullein, nettle, papaya, parsley, peppermint, plantain,
primrose, raspberry, red clover, sage, skullcap, sheperd’s purse,
white oak bark, yarrow
Suggested Requirements:
(Prairie Naturals Multi-Force: 10.7 mg per day).
Selenium:
When our bodies start to oxidize, it is the same as getting rusty on
the inside. Selenium helps as an antioxidant for the lipids. It
works well with Vitamin E. Our thyroid controls our fat metabolism
and the selenium helps to regulate the thyroid hormone along with
preventing certain tumors. For men, selenium can help to prevent
prostate and lung cancer. Selenium has been helpful in creating
antibodies with Vitamin E, which aids in healing liver cirrhosis,
enlarged prostates, Aids, tissue elasticity and high blood
pressure. The lack of Selenium will contribute to heart disease,
cancer, infections, poor liver function, exhaustion and sterility.
Too much selenium can also cause healthy problems. It is suggested
not to take more than 400 mcg per day, unless your doctor recommends
it. And if pregnant, no more than 40 mcg supplemental selenium per
day.
Food Sources:
Veggies:
broccoli, garlic, parsley, onions
Other:
Brazil nuts, brewers yeast, brown rice, chicken, diary products,
dulse, kelp, liver, molasses, salmon, seafood, tuna, wheat germ,
whole grains
Herb Sources:
alfalfa, burdock root, catnip, cayenne, chamomile, chickweed, fennel
seed, fenugreek, ginseng, hawthorn berry, hops, horsetail,
lemongrass, milk thistle, nettle, oat straw, parsley, peppermint,
raspberry leaf, rose hips, sarsaparilla, uvi ursi, white oak bark,
yarrow, yellow dock
Suggested Requirements:
(Prairie Naturals Multi-Force: 200 mcg per day). It is suggested
not to take more than 400 mcg per day, unless your doctor recommends
it. If pregnant no more than 40 mcg

(herbs and more)
This herb could be added under vegetables, but as garlic, it is
considered a herb too. Fresh Alfalfa sprouts are amazing in

is being added to and all the herbs that have been mentioned in the
newsletters will be listed here and with more in depth information.
(Please be patient, as I am getting a bit fussy, yet having fun.) I
am not a herbalist, but amazed by what herbs can do for our health
and well being.

Numerology: My cousin Shelley told me about an amazing numerology
book by: Dan Millman.
What books can you recommend?
Do you have your seeds ready to start your tomatoes, green peppers,
petunias and other plants for the garden?
It is a wee bit early, but ii is time to start our research and
looking for alternative methods of renewing our plants, gardens and
seeds. After looking through some of the seed magazines, the
reminder came on how we need to know what grows well in our climate
and the length of growing days. Just a 2 hour drive in Alberta can
provide a huge change in growing time and weather. Lethbridge can
provide at least 2 more weeks in the spring and fall for warmer
weather and seed start time. Along with being able to grow plants
that can be very iffy in Calgary. Yet at the same time, we can
still grow amazing vegetables 20 minutes north of Cochrane, where
our spring is shorter, yet we have the shelter of trees and the
hills. But we would have trouble with some of the veggies and
plants grown in Lethbridge, as we would need the green house or row
covers.
I am tempted to follow my neighbor this year: in Cochrane we both
have a green house. This amazing neighbor must have 10 green
thumbs, as she grows huge green peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers
along with herbs in her green house. And I know it is all organic.
My green house could not boost the same story.
Horse manure is good for gardens and a good way to start to build up
the soil again. Adding your grass clippings and leaves can help to
keep the moisture in. Also having plants that are compatible
together can make a big difference. We found with growing dill, the
plants need space so that the soil can dry a bit more, and if
planted to close to other tall plants, they were more susceptible to
getting aphids.
